Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) launches Animal Assisted therapy program

Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) has launched a unqiue and innovative animal-assisted therapy programme at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Mrs. Sheikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director General of Dubai Foundation for Women's and Children, stated: “The Foundation strives to contribute to the development of our society and to serve all members of the community by providing social services in a sustainable manner, and we believe that achieving this goal can only be done through Building real and effective partnerships that contribute in raising social standards”.


This came during her opening speech at the launch of Animal Assisted therapy program organized by DFWAC and sponsored by Himalaya Global Management Ltd, on Thursday morning at Expo 2020 Dubai. The ceremony honored the partners and supporters who contributed to support the program, in the presence of H. E. Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, chairman of the board of Directors of Dubai Foundation for women and children.

Al Mansouri added: "I am delighted and honored to meet you today at the launch of Animal Assisted therapy program, the first of its kind at the national level, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister of and Ruler of Dubai, and the objectives of Dubai 2021 plan which are to strengthen our social services to create a an inclusive and cohesive society”.

And she said: Animal Assisted therapy program is a unique approach that can replace or even complete the traditional psychotherapy sessions. It is known for incorporating animals into the psychotherapy process such as horses, dogs, rabbits, fish, and birds to improve people social performance psychological and adaptive functioning especially after going through strong trauma or negative experience for example illness, loss, violence, abuse and exploitation, This program target the clients of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children that are victims of violence, exploitation. Especially the critical cases that shows symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder or any psychiatric symptoms related to anxiety and depression, as our goal is to develop new and innovative ways to support children and women who are victims of violence, and exploitation, Improve victims adaptive and interactive abilities, help victims improve their social functioning and help them to improve their abilities to build healthy and positive relationships with others.

Al Mansouri thanked all the partners and supporters who played a key role in the success of the foundation's programs and initiatives, and made its results tangible, hoping that the launch of this program will be the beginning of achieving more pioneering achievements.

On the other side Mrs. Ghanima Hassan Al bahri, Care & Rehabilitation Director stated: The animal assisted psychotherapy sessions will take place in DFWAC premises along with other activities that will would be held in other entities facilities such as Dubai police, farms, stables..etc. Moreover the program will be evaluated throw the observations form for the behavior of the victims who are receiving the animal therapy and Clients Happiness Survey at DFWAC.

In the end of the ceremony H. E. Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, chairman of the board of Directors of Dubai Foundation for women and children honored the program’s partners, Dubai Police (K-9), and Al Marmoom Initiative, as well as the program’s supporters, American Wellness Center, and Posh Paws Pets Nursery and Trading, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in supporting the foundation’s services.
